Industrial Shelving
A couple months ago, I decided to explore my desire to create through carpentry. Having done only a few very simple carpentry projects beforehand—this was very new to me. I chose to create some industrial-inspired shelving for our new apartment. It was a great choice for an amateur. Being a lover of Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper and just about every DIY show, I took to Home Depot and gathered my materials. I ended up purchasing some piping, screws, and three oak planks—two 20"x8" planks and one 36"x8" plank. I chose these sizes because the studs within a wall are typically 16" apart. Meaning for a more secure hold, I needed to screw the shelf fastenings into the studs. Thus—the smaller plank sizes were 16"+2" and the larger was 32"+2" (plus two inches on each side) for aesthetic purposes. I chose 8" for the shelve's depth.
Featured is one of the smaller shelves I made. It was a fairly quick project. I'd say the only timely portion of this endeavor was the staining and waiting for my pieces to dry. I certainly hope to get more into carpentry. I have another shelf on my to-do-list. It is an old shutter that I will repurpose into a shelf for our "in-home" garden. I hope to start growing some herbs. That's it for now. Hope you all enjoyed this post.
